The Co-E.D. Interview & Shoot

Photos by Brian Goodwin

June 22, 2022

With the announcement of BL Shirelle joining Fury Young as Co-Executive Director, we’ve premiered an interview with the two directors recorded just a few days before the announcement last Sunday, Juneteenth. In their discussion, BL and Fury cover lots of ground, from their meeting via prison snail mail in April 2015 to now directing the nation’s first record label for prison-impacted musicians… the struggles which come along with that… both being outsiders in different ways… and some of their proudest moments thus far.

Also! Back in April of this year, photographer and long-time DJC supporter Brian Goodwin snapped some iconic shots of the two directors, and just for fun we’ve cut together some behind the scenes footage. We were honored to collaborate with an amazing crew on this, and scored some special latex pieces designed by Sonia Agostino of Tableaux Vivant which you’ll see BL rocking (red trench).

THANK YOU TO THE CREW! Photographer Brian Goodwin, photo assistant Raechel Cabble, make up artist Leah Samuel, stylist Olivia LaTronica, Tableaux Vivant designer and latex-lender Sonia Agostino, cheerleader/conceptualist from afar Royal Young, behind the scenes shooter Eric Borsuk, on set vibes from Latoya Ross and Valerie Seeley, and a special thanks to Ming Lin and Alex Tatarsky of Canal Street Research for letting us use the space!
