SINGLE OF THE MONTH LAUNCH WITH “SIGS”

Today we launch DJC Record’s Single of the Month initiative with “SIGS” — the first track off BL Shirelle’s debut album Assata Troi (PRE-SAVE HERE, album drops 6/19). The song release coincides with a nostalgic music video directed by BRIAN GOODWIN, Art Director of Madame Secretary and forthcoming film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In The Heights.

Shot a few weeks before the U.S. COVID outbreak and edited mostly during quarantine, the video captures a deep range of emotion, time, and place. For a song the artist describes as “a very introspective reflection of my past,” the video couldn’t be more fitting.

“[SIGS is about] the things I’ve been through and how those things have manifested into my way of living, my rationale,” BL writes. “It’s a blend of vulnerability and justification. The music is a blend of beauty and rage… thus fitting perfectly with the lyrics.”
